About Me

What am I up to now? I’m following my curiosity (and healthy skepticism) of technology as creative and collaborative medium, integrating old (PowerPoint, code) and new (Generative AI, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality) digital mediums with research inquiries into historical and literary topics.

I earned Bachelor’s degrees in Graphic Design and English from North Carolina State University. Shortly after graduating, I kicked off my professional career as a graphic designer, starting as Production Assistant for a small but competitive design firm and advancing to Visual Design Manager for a global technology consulting firm. After getting caught in the tech industry’s layoff sweep, I attended an alumni event in 2023. I was introduced to the idea of a career in the Digital Humanities, a budding field that would make space for my creative interests and skills. To make the pivot, I completed my Master’s degree in Media Arts, Design and Technology and earned a Graduate Certificate in Digital Humanities from my alma mater.

My most recent work centers the early Black American experience, particularly through the lens of language and literature. It includes: “The Black Church as Community Anchor,” an award-winning map series investigating whether the presence of the Black American Church signaled the perpetuity of historically Black communities; “The Georgia Negro and The Wanderer,” a short AR documentary combining informative media of a slave ship with W.E.B. Du Bois’ “The Georgia Negro” map; and my graduate Capstone, “Field Dreams – The Black American Slave as Subject Matter Expert: Crafting Impossible Realities in Immersive Experiences,” a research-based project merging past literary insight with present immersive media to inspire storytellers to challenge American myths about what it means to be human and citizen.

I’m interested in expanding the study and application of creative theory and practice within the budding field of Digital Humanities (DH), thereby presenting fresh approaches to new industry challenges and opportunities.

About Foxxwork Creative

Foxxwork began as an independent freelance graphic design studio. After 10+ years of practice, I felt the studio didn’t fully represent my creative vision. I pressed the brakes on client-based design services and expanded Foxxwork to include new projects and explorations in digital humanities and publishing.

This space is a central feature of my digital “playground,” where I navigate and assemble my journey as a multi-faceted creative. More of my passion for language, story, technology and history can be found on Instagram (@foxxwork, @bookbarz) and YouTube (@FoxxworkCreative).
